Mallika Jain sets her eye at the London Luxe!
“Everything around you changes with the time” and this stands very true in the context of fashion trends. As fashion travels from one subculture to another, the evolution of Indian fashion beginning from traditional Indian wear to getting influenced by western styles can now be easily witnessed. Looking closer at this transformation, the late 1960s had a laid back version of Indian wear with light makeup and simple outfits. The first shift in fashion trends could easily be spotted in 1970-80s, where Bollywood increased its fashion quotient – what we still identify as the retro vibe. Experiments with different looks of sarees and different kinds of hairdo could be easily witnessed during this time.
The 1980s was the time when western wears came into main frame fashion industry in India and prints in western wears were applauded immensely. In 1990’s, it was followed with knotted tops and shirts, crop tops and trendy outfits. Shimmery pearl jewelry with matte foundation topped trend charts during this period. And then in the 2000s, Indian wardrobes were completely taken over by denim and modernized dresses. This was the time when the classy & versatile western took over the traditional Indian fashion and infact, you could very well see improvisations coming into lehengas and sarees too.
This change can be well attributed to the massive overhaul in media & communication. With globalization, the shift in fashion trends and acceptance towards western wears could be easily observed. As a matter of fact, with increasing global outreach, the exchange of trends was not only witnessed in India but other countries too. And what is more striking is the increasing curiosity of Asian couture in London and other parts of UK. In recent times, there has been an increasing demand for Asian fashion in London. In this age of social networking, trends are very easy to exchange. It’s a fact that exchange of fashion is becoming more and more accepting and one such shift can be witnessed at London Luxe- the next fashion exhibition of Fashion Capsule.
