Fall Winter Coat 2016- Fashion for Asian women

Fall Winter my favourite season. The crisp winter with mulled wine, the celebrations and promise of a new year….With that comes shopping and this season the hunt is on for a Coat.

This may feel tad too late for Londoners considering the sudden chill in the air and drop in the temperature.  For all my fellow asian friends , who are planning to invest in a Winter Coat this season and still haven’t found the ONE that feels like You , this may help you. (I hope so!! )

I strongly believe that buying a Coat is an investment just like owning a pair of boots, it’s one of the most important key pieces that one must own- It says a lot about you. Often I have  heard people say ‘ It’s the outfit under the Coat that matters’ but I can vouch that an elegant L.K Benette  or a sexy French Connection cocktail  dress under a not so well invested coat would totally ruin the look for the day. On the other hand a great coat layered over your track suit on a school run can still make you look fab and get you noticed.

Whether you are a Style Diva or a classic you must own a piece, preferably in a neutral colour, that can last a few years.  The question is how much should we invest in?If you were hunting on the high street, a great investment coat would range anything between £100-£200.

Now with that in mind let’s explore what’s available in the high street market and some top brands. Having looked for ‘THE COAT’ (Petite, trust me can be a nightmare !! ) for the last 30 days marching down the streets of Oxford and Regent Street and late night online shopping, I’m penning down some really good options available out there for you.

Fashion Diva or a Classic ?

For the Fashion and Style Divas, there’s lots of Shearlings & Fur in every store ranging from Zara to Next. If you are tall and want to an add an edge go for the bold leopard print particularly the ones in Oasis. If fashion is what you are looking for , Zara ranks number one in the chart for me personally.

Walk in style in a camel leather coat or a suede. Peep into French Connection, some very fashionable and affordable ones on the racks.

Our Classics looking for comfort and elegance, the Minimalist coats are trending the Fashion shows across the globe. No one does this better than Hobbs and this time there are some great winter reds and burgundy too. Try the Herringbone column coat at Jigsaw ( £250 plus) for a more corporate look.

There’s amazing varieties for taller women ranging from double breasted to long dressing gown coats to military style and even toggles. Own it in a beautiful colour – I would stay away from pastel pinks and blues- they don’t do justice to my asian skintone. Rather go for your neutral Black, Navy, Taupe or Dark chocolate brown or go all vibrant with True Red, Bittersweet Burgundy or even Pine Green.

Here’s an interesting link and a quick guide I found online http://www.vogue.co.uk/gallery/best-winter-coats-2016-under-300

As my quest for ‘THE COAT’ continues, I hope you find yours!
